Tips On Using Solar Energy In Your Home

If you are looking for ways to save money on energy at home or the office, solar energy is a great way. Solar energy will keep your utility bills down and it's also better for the environment. Use the following information to find out more about getting started with solar energy.

It is important to know that about the two main types of photo-voltaic solar panels. Less expensive panels are usually poly-crystalline, but they are not as effective as the more expensive mono-crystalline panels. Invest in the best system you can afford.

Start out small when you begin using solar power. There are outdoor lights that are completely run on solar energy. Solar powered garden lights can be found in almost any store that sells ordinary garden lights. Installing them means nothing more than shoving them into the soil.

The solar panels efficiency can be determined by how dense they are. Higher density panels tend to cost more, but they are able to produce more power. Look at the density of various panels before deciding on one.

Going with a solar panel system does not mean that you will be ripping off your roof. At minimum, you might consider simply replacing your outdoor lights with solar powered lighting. They charge up all day to shine all night, except perhaps the predawn hours of the longest nights of winter.

Solar photovolatic panels can decrease your heating bill, as can solar water heating. Photovoltaic panels work best in areas that get about five hours of unobstructed sunlight. This can offset the cost of heating your swimming pool.

Though solar cars would surely reduce carbon pollution greatly, technology still lags in this area. But, there are other devices that work well on solar energy. Solar powered generators are now available, and this would be the perfect solution to a long term power outage.

Chart your patterns of energy consumption and use that information to estimate your needs. Before switching to solar power, you will need to know how much energy your home consumes. This information is crucial when choosing the size of your energy system. Since energy usage changes on a seasonal basis, monitoring your bills is important.

If you want to convert to solar energy, begin with the easiest conversion spots. Gradually replace your smaller appliances to avoid significant upheaval in your daily life. Changing things one step at a time makes it easier to follow through with your plan.

Pathway lighting is a cheap and fast way to start taking advantage of solar power in your home and business. These tiny lamps take in the sun's energy during the light hours and then shine it along your path when dark. They are not very difficult to install, and they can add some charm to your outside area.

If you're interested in a particular solar panel model, determine when this panel was created. Many current technologies are better, but some panel vendors sell technology that's a couple years old. Older models may get the job done with a lower initial investment, but the latest and greatest promises improved results nonetheless.

Avoid pushy sales reps who work in the business of solar energy. These types of salespeople are pretty common in this industry. You have to be able to stand up to them and tell them that you need time to shop around. If they say they have a great deal right now, then it really should still be a good deal next week too. Making a decision while under pressure can lead to regret later.

You will be glad you took the proactive step of switching to solar energy. Solar power can save you money every month and help the environment. Switching to clean energies will also allow you to save the environment. Apply the advice in this piece as you make these changes.

Laker head coach Damon Whitten was pleased with the turnaround from the night before when they suffered a disappointing 5-3 loss. “I thought everyone showed up, we had 20 guys who played and played hard and fast and that’s what we need to win,” said Whitten. The Lakers, who have been a disciplined team all year when it comes to penalties, found themselves spending a little more time in the box than usual, starting out with a hooking call against Chase Gamelin at 1:53 of the first period. The Nooks would get another 6 power play chances from the Lakers, finally taking advantage of the one man advantage in the second period when Ryker Leer broke a scoreless tie at 15:49. He was assisted by Justin Woods and James LaDouce. The Lakers seemed to put their penchant for penalties behind them heading into the 3rd period which allowed freshman defenseman Tyler Anderson to score his first goal of the season--a power play goal--to tie up the game at 1-1 just inside the start of the period. Assists went to Gamelin and Max Humitz. “Once we got back to 5 on 5 in the offensive zone we were able to generate some chances,” said Whitten. And generate they did. As the crowd came alive so did the scoring opportunities. At 8:17 of the 3rd period J.T. Henke put one between the pipes with help from Anthony Nellis and Max Humitz. And at 11:36 Anthony Nellis got one by Nanooks sophomore goalie Anton Martinsson, aided by J.T. Henke, making the score 3-1. With the Nanooks’ goalie watching from the bench Diego Cuglietta shot into the open net with 1:14 left in the game, after receiving a quick flip from Gage Torrel.

The City of Sault Ste. Marie has initiated a study to convert its downtown one-way streets to two-way streets, namely Bay, Queen, Albert and Wellington Streets. A public information session is scheduled for December 6 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Russ Ramsay Board Room at the Civic Centre to hear comments and suggestions. All are welcome to attend this session as City staff and Consultants will be available to discuss the project. "The City's new Transportation Master Plan recommends considering this conversion to benefit downtown business and livability; introduce new pedestrian, cycling and driver safety features; and improve overall accessibility through the downtown and the waterfront," says Carl Rumiel, Design and Construction Engineer with the City of Sault Ste. Marie. "The main conversion disadvantage is the cost, for example of new curb work and traffic signals, utility relocations and property acquisitions which is why it's essential for us to present potential solutions and offer an opportunity for the public to provide input and suggestions." Downtown street operations have changed dramatically since one-way streets were first installed 60 years ago. Alternative ways of converting the one-way streets will be presented to the public. The Study is being conducted as a Schedule B project in accordance with the province's Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) process. All members of the public are welcome to attend, and City staff and the consultant will be available to discuss the study. The City's study web site can be found at www.saultstemarie.ca/DowntownTrafficEA .
